A vehicle fire damaged a Grover Street home Friday morning and led to detectives investigating a second possible arson this week, according to Rome police reports.

According to the reports:

Officers were called to 407 Grover St. in South Rome at about 5 a.m. for a residential fire and found a 2006 Nissan Sentra totally engulfed in the front yard.

Officers confirmed two occupants were inside the home and, with the fire spreading to the front porch, were able to get them out of the back door of the home after kicking it in since it was nailed shut because of recent burglaries, according to the occupants.

The Rome-Floyd Fire Department put out the fire, which damaged the front of the house.

There were no suspects at the time of the report. Rome police had asked for help with an earlier arson incident that occurred at a Calhoun Avenue business on Christmas Eve.
