Jozell Payne, 76, was pronounced dead at 9:54 a.m. at his home, said Floyd County Coroner Barry Henderson.
Maj. Mark Wallace of the Floyd County Police Department called the death “suspicious” but has declined to provide further details, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Payne’s body was sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy on Thursday, but the final results of that autopsy are pending, Wallace said.
