A Lindale man was arrest Wednesday after police say he threatened a police officer on Facebook, reports state.

According to Rome police reports:

Derek Randal Maxwell, 21, of 231 Flora Ave., posted a message to his personal Facebook page on Sept. 23, stating “that cop that gave me that $140 ticket better hope I never see him again because I’m gonna beat the (expletive) out of him.”

Maxwell had gotten a citation on Sept. 12 for driving with an expired tag.

The suspect admitted to police that the message was posted by him and directed specifically at the officer who had written the ticket. When asked if he meant the threat Maxwell said, “there’s no telling.” Maxwell also told police he might hurt the officer if he saw him again.

Maxwell, who remained in jail Thursday evening, is charged with felony terroristic threats and acts.

Special classes? If you didn't see the post or if you weren't present when questioned then how do you know this wasn't taken way out of context. It was said in a joking manner as were all comments then he deleted within in minutes. So be careful on the internet. No he shouldn't have joked that way but what if you got arrested for putting on FB "my husband bought a mercedes that we can't afford He's dead when I see him" so you go to jail for plotting murder? & how many times have we all said something similiar jokingly. I forgot everything we read in media is complete truth and ALL facts are always there. Much thanks for your comments/small scar etc very relevant. I'm sure you are all just perfect. Thank goodness the judge knew the difference in a young man making bad choice in jokes between a plot to attack. So YOU are the MORON & AZHLE

Sounds like a typical Lindale punk to me. He shouldn't have been charged because there should at least be some reality to the threat. I doubt he could fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Momma probably always fought his battles.

I remember this kid from school. If this picture was better quality, you would be able to see the scar at the corner of his mouth from and accident when he was a small child. He was in special classes. That may work in his favor.

He wasn't speeding he had an expired tag. That does not raise your insurance rates. If you think $140 is alot fr a ticket trying getting one in the metro Atlanta area.

He shouldn't have threatened him like that, but 140.00 for a ticket (and your insurance going up) could possibly be a terroristic threat itself these days. Some people don't have a grocery budget that high...and, I know, I know..he shouldn't have been speeding. Heck, best thing you can do these days is try to stay home - if you still have one - and UNDER the radar - they are wanting those fines.

So, a 21 year old with the mentality to admit he posted that sure seems either dangerous or "certified" to me. If I were the cop that he threatened I would want something done, as would any of you reading this. Clearly Mr. Maxwell is either stupid or crazy enough to hurt someone.

I ask again, for those of you who bash the cops frequently on this site, what do you do to help keep our community safe? When you are threatened or have something stolen from you what do you do?

I have never commented before, but I just CANNOT let cavespringdave run off at the mouth about officers on the internet while on duty! If he did his homework, he would realize that they cannot even get on the internet in their cars. Nowhere in the article does it say that the officer is the one who found the post. Facebook has millions of users!!! There is no telling who saw the post and who they were friends with and who they told and how it got reported!!!! And as for you anabelle_lee and your smart comments, you have no proof the officer was "snooping" on anyone's page! I repeat, NO WHERE IN THE ARTICLE does it say the officer is the one who found the post!!!

I feel much safer now that this young man is off the streets and that the cops are doing their jobs. It's neither paranoid nor opportunistic to snoop on the facebook page of everyone you ticketed. It's just good police work. God knows that that 21 year olds don't make idle threats.

Dude are you really that stupid? to threaten a cop. Especially on facebook where everybody post when they had their last bowel movement, the last time they picked their nose, scratched their ... Well you know what I mean. Facebook is the number one reason for most the divorces in the US. Everyone looking for that old someone that did them wrong along time ago. You want to threaten a cop I guess you have plenty of time to think about it now. Next time think it, don`t write it down. Your in the jailhouse now.
