Update: Family feud axes plan to use Polk tree in Governor's Mansion

A family squabble in Polk County forced state officials to go elsewhere to find a Christmas tree for the Governor’s Mansion.

According to Denise Croker, Chief Ranger of the Polk County Unit of the Georgia Forestry Commission, the tree cutting on Cedartown Highway was called off Tuesday.

Croker said a family dispute erupted Tuesday morning when the landowner's sister threatened to sue if the tree was cut. Croker said the commission spent the day dealing with the family dispute.

“We were scurrying around to find a tree for the governor,” she said.

Officials were able to find one in Rockdale County. The tree will be delivered today so it will be decorated in time for the Christmas season, which begins Friday.

Polk County will be providing the Christmas tree for the Governor’s house for the second year in a row.

That news came this week from the Georgia Forestry Commission. Officials said the tree comes from a Rockmart Highway landowner.

A representative from the Governor’s office will be at the tree site Nov. 25 to watch as Georgia Forestry Commission workers work to remove the tree and deliver it to Atlanta.

Leave it to POLK COUNTY to have a family squabble which leads to the Governor to look for a tree elsewhere. Is there anyone else here that thinks Polk County should be annexed into Alabama?
