Hope you are all are reading the labels on food at the grocery store. There are many reasons to read the information on the packages of food. I would recommend these facts you can gather from the back of those food items.

How many servings are in the package, can, or bottle?

Many times we think that a package only has one serving when many times you must multiply the grams and milligrams by the number of serving. A great example is the number of servings in a one-pound bag of M & M candies — the bag needs to be divided with 15 friends.

How many grams of calories from fat?

How much fat is really in the food items?

How much sodium is in the food you are about to eat?

How many carbohydrates are in a food item?

What are the ingredients of the food you are about to eat?

The ingredients section is where you can find what is in the food. The order of the most to the least ingredients is listed by the first item that you read. The first items listed in the ingredients are the food item by weight and amount in the food. A great example of this is if you are buying Beef Stew and the first item listed is water, then that is the item that has the most volume in the product. The second item may be carrots; therefore, that is the second most items in the can. Beef may be the sixth or seventh item listed.

With all this information found your first shopping trip, you can select the best food for your health. I am glad I am on your side to keep you healthy.
