Christmas is almost here and folks in the Greater Rome area have been busy decking the halls for the holidays. Some people go all out, especially when it comes to light displays.

We’ve been asking readers to tell us about their holiday decorations displays that are available for public viewing. Here are some readers have shared and you can still tell us about displays that you think are worthy of sharing:

Jimmy and Shirley Howard, 49 Pinecrest Drive in Rome. Their home is at the corner of Pinecrest Drive and Ga. 20, also known as Alabama Highway, about a block east of Coosa High School.

The Howards say, “We have decorated both inside and out for the Christmas season for several years with the displays growing each year.

“We have a small home with a large, very tastefully decorated Christmas display that is highlighted by a 12-foot lighted Christmas tree in the front yard and a three-tree lighted display on the Highway 20 side of the yard. There is Christmas music in both the side and front yard. The display also includes a large lighted bear, penguins, snowmen, lighted horse and carriage, a small lighted Nativity scene and many other displays, none of which are the blow up type. The lights come on at dusk (approximately 6:30 p.m.) and are turned off at approximately 9:30 p.m. each night.

“We believe it’s not what you receive for Christmas that gives you the most joy, but it is what you give that provides the most joy. The light display is our way a giving joy to many, both friends and strangers. We hope many people will come by to see our yard display and enjoy the lights of the Christmas season.”

Jim and Paula Bowers invite you to share their passion for holiday decorating by driving by their Christmas display at 102 Azalea St. in Rosemont Park. Their yard is illuminated with lights, musical trees, animated characters, inflatables and the Nativity. Decorating for the holidays has been a tradition with the Bowers. They hope that their light display helps add to the enjoyment of the season for family, friends and all that drive by. Viewing hours are between dusk and midnight.

Van and Cyndi Westmoreland have Christmas decorations for viewing that include Santa with reindeer and large Christmas tree with lights at 269 Brewer Road. It will be on display through Christmas Day.

Misty R. Carroll says, “We outlined our house in lights at 126 Potts Road. They’re on around dark until about 10 p.m. through the week and all night on weekends. We don’t turn them on when it’s raining. This is our second year of doing so. My son always wanted lights on the house. Last year he spent all his money on lights. It ended up being only half enough, so I bought the other half. We ain’t ‘big dogs’ yet like Alan Snow off of Calhoun Avenue or the family on Dykes Creek Church Road (one year they had music), but we’ll get there!”

Autumn H. Barnes recommends these holiday decorations, saying “my Paw Paw Chandler Taylor of Lindale always does his yard so pretty for Christmas. He makes a Christmas tree out of lights in his front yard along with other things. Please go take a look at it, he lives at 411 Spring Village Road, Lindale.

The Tilly Family at 708 Lee Ave. in East Rome has their front yard decorated with a Nativity and a Bible that is more than 6 feet high and 8 feet wide that’s open to the Christmas story in Luke. They also have snowmen and many other items out in the front. The backyard is decorated with deer, Santa and his sleigh, along with a pear tree decorated with lights and presents under it. The backyard can be seen from Second Avenue behind Blue Sky Outfitters at night. “The family just wants everyone to have a blessed Holiday Season and remember the true meaning of Christmas,” they wrote. The lights are on from 6 p.m. until midnight daily until Jan. 1.

Patricia and Jason Kisor, 14 and 16 Beech St. in Riverside, have two yards of Christmas decorations side by side that include a Nativity scene plus Mickey and Minnie and a moving Ferris wheel and lots of different scenes.

Seven houses on Piedmont Avenue in the Garden Homes neighborhood have decorated for the holidays with lights, Christmas trees, Nativity scenes, inflatables and more. Resident Betty Davis said she and her neighbors have been decorating for more than a decade. Piedmont Avenue is located behind World Hi-Fi in West Rome.

Alane, Steve and Corey Evans invite you to see their display at 7 Timberlane Terrace off Burnett Ferry Road. Steve Evans used to do the boats for the boat parade here in Rome. He is an electrician, and it’s said he puts on quite a display. “We enjoy seeing the children’s faces light up for the real meaning of Christmas,” wrote the Evanses. Their lights are on from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Allen Snow has been decorating his home at 45 Clervue Circle and his daughter’s home just behind his, at 9 Pamore St. for the past 15 years. Both houses are lined with more than 20,000 lights, and have more than 40 blow-ups, Nativity scenes, reindeer, penguins and Christmas trees. Santa even hands out candy on some nights. He said he would enjoy having families come out and see the display. The lights are on Monday through Thursdays from dusk until 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from dusk to midnight until New Year’s Day.

The neighborhood along Dykes Creek Church Road off Kingston Road always has lots of lights, as does Ga. 53 in Scottsville between here and Calhoun. And the town square in Cave Spring is filled with holiday charm.

If you have an impressive display of lights and decorations that you think might bring some holiday joy to others, send us a description of your display, the dates and hours it’s available for viewing and some of the highlights. We’ll also need your name, address and telephone number. And feel free to send us photos, too, if you’d like. The last day to add displays to our list is Thursday at noon.

This week, we’ll publish the list of holiday displays in the newspaper this week and on RN-T.com.

E-mail your information to Romenewstribune@RN-T.com and put “Holiday Decorations” in the subject line. Or you can drop it by to us at the Rome News-Tribune, 305 E. Sixth Ave., Rome. Be sure to get them to us by Christmas Eve at noon.
