Redmond Regional Medical Center honored a physician, an employee and a volunteer as the hospital’s 2012 Frist Humanitarian Award recipients.

Dr. P.J. McElhone, Lauren Lyle and Charles Carlisle were recognized with the awards created to recognize Redmond associates who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community.

McElhone is an active volunteer in his church and for Saint Mary’s School. He also volunteers for Operation Smile — an organization providing free cleft palate surgery to patients around the world — and works to enhance his Spanish skills to better serve the Spanish-speaking population.

Lyle was recognized as a “high-energy person with excellent nursing skills (who) will soothe the stress of a patient and their family prior to surgery.” She is an avid bargain hunter who seeks out sales to fill food boxes for the needy, a mission she helps organize through her church.

Carlisle volunteers two days a week at Redmond and serves as vice president of the hospital’s volunteer auxiliary. He’s also an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a certified Red Cross volunteer, a trained member of the Community Emergency Response Team and a volunteer with the Garden Lakes Church Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.

“Their exemplary work and compassion sets a high standard for health care professionals. We’re proud to have them as a part of our Redmond family,” said Redmond CEO John Quinlivan.

The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA. National recipients will be honored at a reception in the spring.
