Local writers are showcasing their work in a newly released anthology of poetry and prose.

“Lavender Mountain Anthology IX” is the ninth edition in a series released by the Rome Area Writers.

“We started this anthology nine years ago to showcase the works of the members of the group,” said Dekie Hicks, a member of Rome Area Writers and head of the anthology committee. “There’s no specific theme to the book. Anyone who is a member can submit.”

With submissions by 21 of the group’s members, Hicks said the anthology features prose, poetry, excerpts from published works as well as work as yet unpublished.

“There’s also a ‘Local Color’ section,” she said. “It features poetry and prose dealing with specific locations and people in Rome and Floyd County.”

Hicks said the anthology is just one of the projects by the Rome Area Writers which is open to all area residents with an interest in writing.

The group meets at the Rome –Floyd County Library on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

“Lavender Mountain Anthology IX” is available at Dogwood Books, Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, Magic Touch Car Wash, Rome Area History Museum and the Rome-Floyd County library gift shop. It retails for $11. For additional information about the book or Rome Area Writers, visit online at romeareawriters.com or e-mail info@wheredeponypress.
