Powers, the turf manager at the stadium, and his new fiancée Savannah Ruth, the field host for the Rome Braves, had only been dating for about two months, but they had already been talking about getting married.
“It’s like people say, when you know, you know,” said Powers. “I never believed that before, but when I met Savannah that changed.”
He said he knew he wanted to propose at the stadium but preferred a non-capacity crowd, and the rainy weather Thursday helped meet that requirement.
Powers also waited until the game was over, but he wasn’t without a sizable crowd when he walked onto the field with a microphone in hand — a dramatic Braves win the bottom of the ninth inning meant few fans left early.
Powers said they haven’t set a date but are possibly looking at February.
