Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the procession will start moving from East First Avenue and continue to Riverside Parkway.
“Everything is going great and I think it will be a great parade,” organizer Janet Byington said. “It’s going to be big.”
This year’s edition includes 120 entrants that range from schools and churches to businesses and civic groups joining in to celebrate the theme of “It’s a Wonderful Christmas.”
Longtime Rome radio personality Nelle Reagan will serve as the grand marshal and Santa Claus will wrap up the parade with his arrival marking the official beginning of the holidays in Rome.
The National Weather Service is forecasting showers and possibly a thundershower before 1 p.m., but the chance of rain is expected to decrease as the afternoon progresses. The high for the day will be near 57, with temperatures dropping to a low around 36 in the evening.
Thursday will serve as the rain date for the parade in case of inclement weather.
Byington said that they have only canceled the parade once in the 29 years she’s been involved with the tradition.
She advises that anyone in the parade should visit their website and look carefully at the line-up instructions.
Cave Spring will present its annual Christmas parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8. Cedartown holds its parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 and Rockmart will have its Christmas parade Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
