Cayce Woodard, a senior at Rome High School, has become the first Eagle Scout for Troop 742, which meets at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. The troop has been organized for six years.

Woodard, the son of Gary and Katrina Woodard, rebuilt an Outdoor Learning Center at the Department of Natural Resources office on Floyd Springs Road that was damaged during a storm. Woodard organized a group to clean it up, remove the damaged shingles, replace rotting wood (beams, decking, etc.), and added a tin roof instead of shingles.

He received his Eagle badge on Nov. 3.
