William “Bill” Simon Davies has received the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Union College in Barbourville, Ky.

Davies was presented with the award during a ceremony at Union College’s homecoming celebration in October.

Union cited Davies’s commitment to ministry and community service, especially through his long-term and extensive efforts with First Baptist Church and Good Neighbors Ministries, as reasons for his selection.

The Distinguished Alumni Service Award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who has proven leadership and service within his or her community.

Davies is a 1966 graduate of Union. He has lived in Rome, Georgia, for more than 30 years.
