Kasi Runion is now the queen of kills at Shorter College.
The senior from Ringgold posted nine kills, giving her 1,250 for her career and supplanting Kate Puckett for first place on Shorter’s all-time kills list, as the Lady Hawks topped Reinhardt College in straight sets Tuesday night.
With her latest accomplishment, Runion has permanently etched her name as one of the volleyball program’s all-time greats.
Runion already holds the single-season kills record of 408 that she set last season, breaking the previous mark of 404 that she set herself in 2007. She currently leads the team with 166 kills thus far in 2009.
The six-footer also ranks in the top five in career blocks and leads the squad in that category as well.
Her offensive and defensive prowess was on display against the host Eagles.
Runion added seven blocks to her record-breaking kill total and hit .438 for the match, bouncing back after a tough outing against Lee University on Monday night.
Ashley Walton paced the Lady Hawks with ten kills on just 13 attacks and Jordan May recorded a team and career-high 19 assists in addition to three service aces as Shorter improved to 14-7 overall and captured its third win in the last four matches.
After dropping the first set 25-21, Reinhardt (4-13) posed little resistance to Shorter’s balance on offense as five Lady Hawks registered at least four kills en route to 25-11 and 25-16 triumphs in sets two and three, respectively.
Ashley Stewartson finished with six kills and Maggie Parker and freshman Leslie Welch finished with four apiece.
The Lady Hawks travel to Montgomery, Ala. for four matches as part of the Faulkner Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10.
