It’s a split decision that could mean the difference between life and death.

Do you chance it by inserting the keys in the ignition and taking what could possibly the last joy ride of your life? 

Rather than facing consequences from a firsthand experience, Floyd County teens can learn responsibility behind the wheel with the upcoming fourth annual Safe Driving Expo at Pepperell High School.

The free expo is set for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Kmart parking lot on Hicks Drive.

The “Just Drive” Safe Driving Expo is sponsored by the Pepperell High group called Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter also has introduced a program called the Sheriff’s Impaired Driving Experience, which uses a hands-on approach to educate teen drivers about the perils of drinking, driving and distractions.

Students will drive a golf cart while wearing simulation goggles that will give the teen the effects of having a blood-alcohol level of three times the legal limit. The cart was purchased through donations.

The expo also will also have a simulated crash scene, a rollover simulator and a demonstration of the “Jaws of Life.”
