BETHLEHEM, Ga. (AP) — Authorities are continuing to search for an inmate who they say escaped from custody by leaving a work crew near Bethlehem.

Sheriff's officials say the 22-year-old Auburn man was an inmate at the Barrow County Detention Center and was working on a grass-cutting crew when he escaped into a forest Monday afternoon.

Sheriff's deputies tell The Athens Banner-Herald reports that tracking dogs were brought in, but the dogs lost the inmate's scent in the rain that fell that evening. Officials say the inmate was being held on a drug charge.
