They led their club to a 19th place finish in the men’s division and a 23rd place overall.
Samson Mumber, 11, placed in the Top 10 in Georgia for his age group in each of his five events.
He placed second in the 50-yard backstroke, fourth in the 100 backstroke, eighth in the 50 freestyle, and 10th in the 100 freestyle. He also placed eighth in the 200 backstroke.
The highest he had ever placed at the state level prior to this competition was sixth.
In his first experience with the adults’ championship format, Mumber competed in nine races over the weekend. In spite of the busy schedule, he improved his performances in each event, notching nine personal best times.
A.J. Williams, Jr. put together great performances in his first state meet as an 11-year-old. He posted three Top 10 finishes and nine personal best times.
After scoring a 10th place finish in the 100 breaststroke in the morning prelims, Williams returned in the evening finals to drop two seconds, earning himself a seventh place in Georgia in his age group. He placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke, and eighth in the 400 individual medley (IM).
He also placed 14th in the 50 breaststroke, 18th in the 100 IM, 20th in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, 22nd in the 50 butterfly, and 26th in the 100 butterfly.
Viola Hasko, 12, placed 19th in her age group in the 50-yard breaststroke, and 31st in the 200-yard breaststroke.
TRSC’s 9-10 boys’ relay team of Luke Baker, Lucas Grigat, Luciano Hasko, and Daniel Schabort, all 10 years old, placed 12th in the 9-10 boys 200-yard medley relay. Grigat chased down four teams on the final 50 freestyle leg.
The relay—affectionately called “Rome’s international relay” since the boys’ families hail from USA, Germany, Romania, and South Africa respectively — placed 16th in the 200-yard free relay.
Grigat, 10, swimming at his first state meet, led the 9-10 boys in the 10 individual events for which he qualified. He earned a 16th place in the 500-yard freestyle and 19th in the 100 breaststroke.
Grigat also placed 25th in the 50 breaststroke, 26th in the 50 freestyle, 28th in the 100 freestyle, 31st in the 200 freestyle, 38th in the 200 IM, 48th in the 100 IM and 71st in the 100 butterfly.
He swam five personal best times at the meet.
Luciano Hasko, 10, swimming in his 3rd state meet, placed 42nd in the 9-10 boys 100 breaststroke, 51st in the 50 backstroke, 53rd in the 50 breaststroke, 64th in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle, 70th in the 100 butterfly, and 85th in both the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.
Luciano had six personal best times at the meet.
Luke Baker, 10, swimming in his first state meet, placed 77th in the 9-10 boys 50 butterfly and 95th in the 50 backstroke.
Daniel Schabort, 10, swimming in his first state meet, had his personal best time in the 9-10 boys 100 breaststroke with a 43rd place.
TRSC swimmers are now preparing for the Georgia 14 & Under Long Course State Championships to be held July 18-21 in Savannah.
Three Rivers Swim Club, coached by Brooks Coville, Laura Douglas, and Zack Lemaster, practices six days a week at the Rome High pool.
