The national headquarters of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity has announced that the Theta Psi chapter at Shorter College is a nominee for the 2009 Pyramid of Excellence Award — the highest honor bestowed upon chapters of the fraternity.

The Pyramid of Excellence Award is presented annually to undergraduate chapters that have demonstrated excellence in all areas of fraternity life in the past academic year.

“Our men are the absolute best of Shorter College, and this is just another symbol of their devotion to the mission of culture, harmony and friendship,” said Corey Colbert, president of the chapter.

Notification of the nomination came less than two weeks after the death of a charter member of the chapter at Shorter, Jacob Edfeldt. After a long struggle with heart disease, including two heart transplants, the Shorter student and Delta Sigma Phi brother passed away June 14.

“Jacob left a huge impact on this fraternity. He was a leader, mentor and friend to all of us. He pushed us all so hard, so he played a huge part in this nomination,” said Chris Cannon, vice president.

Only 14 of more than 110 chapters were nominated.

The chapter will be recognized during the upcoming 56th National Convention of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity to be in St. Louis, Mo., July 22-25.
