Shorter Golf: Hawks take third place at NCCAA Championships

The Shorter men’s golf team came in third at the NCCAA Championships played on the Hombre Golf Club, a 6,157-yard par-72 course.

The Hawks shot a three-day total of 896 to hold off Southern Wesleyan by one stroke. The tournament champion was Oklahoma Christian after they were able to shoot a three-day total 838 to finish 26-strokes under par, they were the only team to finish below par for the championship.

The championship saw 96 players take to the course, with 63 seeing their way beyond the cut after the second round.

Patric Sundlof was the Hawks top finisher (73-75-72—220) in 12th place, in the week he was named NCCAA Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. Ethan Lambert (75-73-73—221) finished one stroke back, resulting in 15th place once all golf was complete.

Juan Giraldo (77-74-74—225) finished in 20th, while Jordan Bethune (80-78-74—232) finished 40th, and Gabriel Cassinelli (80-78-74—232) rounded out the roster finishing 62nd.

Oklahoma Christian saw three of their five golfers conclude the tournament below par; Vilhelm Bogstrand (66-72-70—208) claimed the overall title with a three-day total of 8-under par for Oklahoma Christian.

The golfers will return to the links for spring competition in February when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for the Spring Kickoff at the Fleming Island Golf Club on Feb. 9-10.
