NEWBERRY, S.C. — In a game that saw the Hawks outgain the Wolves of Newberry in total yardage, 382-330; a costly turnover sealed their fate as the Hawks were driving late in the fourth, with as final score of 17-14.

Bradley Moon led the rushing attack again with 128 yards on 20 carries, including touchdown runs of 25 and 10 yards in the first half. Eric Dodson was impressive on the ground also with an additional 73 rushing yards on 15 carries.

Dodson’s passing numbers were not the same as his record setting performance from last week, connecting on three of eight attempts for only 72 yards and one interception.

Dodson’s passes were completed to three different receivers; Brandon Morten for 45 yards, Allen Kareem Hawkins had a 19 yard reception, and Allen Huntley added an eight yard catch.

This game saw a couple of key members of the team leave with injuries and not return to the game. Center Steven Powell left with an undisclosed injury, and Dominique Henfield left early in the contest with a separated shoulder that might linger for a few weeks.

Shorter was hurt by seven fumbles, with three being lost to Newberry. The final fumble coming as a bobbled snap that was recovered by the defensive line of Newberry; sealing the victory as they ran out the remaining game clock.

Demery Hawkins lead the defense with nine tackles (eight solo), which included three tackles for loss. Michael Peeples and Wesley Clay were also near the top of the list with six apiece.

Newberry was led by Apollo Stretch, with 13 tackles, a week after he was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week for his 12 tackles in a 46-20 win over Elizabeth City State. He was joined in the double-digit tackle crowd by Jamal Bethune (11) and Kelton Hall (10).

Next week, the Hawks look to restart their winning ways in a visit to Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Saturday with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
