Shorter leads way in GSC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Shorter Hawks and Lady Hawks placed 73 of the 515 members on the Gulf South Conference Fall 2012 Academic Honor Roll, the highest number by any school within the conference.

To be nominated for GSC Academic Honor Roll honors, a student-athlete must have played during the Fall Sports Season with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Football had 25 members make the list, with women’s soccer having 16 of its 23 players on the list (70 percent of the roster).

The cross country program had 13 honorees, while men’s soccer had six players to make the team.

The Lady Hawks’ volleyball program put 72 percent of the roster (13 of 18 players) on the Academic Honor Roll.

Shorter’s top 15 student-athletes, ranked by GPA, are as follows:

Christopher Beno (4.0, football); Katelyn Mullenix (4.0, Women’s Soccer); Hannah Turner (4.0, Women’s Cross Country); Taylor Wilkerson (4.0, Volleyball); Leslie Welch (3.97, Volleyball); Jessica Wright (3.97, Women’s Soccer); Megan Pepe (3.93, Volleyball); Loren Olive (3.90, Volleyball); Kelli Davis (3.89, Women’s Soccer); Kendall Dials (3.82, Football); Anna Graham (3.8, Volleyball); Kelsey Kirk (3.8, Volleyball); Sarah Jude (3.79, Women’s Cross Country); Katherine Stachula (3.77, Women’s Soccer); Mary Kate Lollar (3.76, Women’s Soccer).
