Lynette Harris scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor as the Lady Hawks earned a GSC win at home.

Shorter shot 33 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and trailed 20-19 at the half. But the Lady Hawks (7-6, 3-3 GSC) used a 12-2 run early in the second half to seize control, and they never trailed again.

“In the first half we played hard, but the execution was not where we would want it, especially with 16 turnovers,” said coach Vic Mitchell. “But we really settled down in the second half and Milena (Samson) had a career night and Lynette (Harris) got back to scoring like we need her to. Karisma Boykin did a great job leading the team all night long.”

Shorter’s game-changing run was led by Samson, who got her first start of the season in place of the injured Kristin Nash.

Samson scored four of her career-high 12 points during the surge.

Former Model star Shelby Farrer finished with nine points with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Karisma Boykin was held to seven points, but had a team-high nine rebounds and seven assists.

Former Coosa star Ieshia Alexander had eight points and five assists.

The second half rally was aided the Lady Hawks shooting 54 percent from the floor, and 43 percent from behind the arc.

The Lady Hawks will visit North Alabama on Jan. 17.
