The Shorter women’s golf team had four players in the top 15 after round one to lead the team standings at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club.
Greta Lange shot an opening-round 74 to tie for the lead after day one with Berry’s Callie Bennett.
Shorter’s Petra Muller (79) finished the day in eighth, Catalina Olarte (80) finished in 11th and Esther Gandarias (81) finished in 14th.
Lindsey Wilson College, the University of West Georgia, South Carolina-Beaufort and the University of the Cumberlands rounded out the top five after the first round.
Tournament host Berry sits in sixth after day one. Behind Bennett, Berry’s next highest participant is Jayne Curtis, who is tied for eighth after shooting a 79.
The men’s portion of the tournament is being played at Coosa Country Club, and Berry’s Sam Curtis is the co-leader after day one carding a first-round 68.
Shorter is in seventh in the men’s team standings with their top finisher being in 12th as Joaquin Correnti shot a first-round 72.
Curtis led the Berry team which is in eighth in the team standings just one stroke behind Shorter.
The University of the Cumberlands leads the men’s standings heading into the final round.
Second-round action will wrap up the tournament today.
