Josh Arnold, Shorter University's director of residence life and student conduct, was recently awarded the Association for Christians in Student Development's (ACSD) Ruth Bamford Award.

The Ruth Bamford Award honors professionals with less than 15 years experience who have demonstrated an ability to integrate faith and learning in their professional lives. The award is also based on scholarship, including publications, dissertation and thesis presentations, as well as other scholarly presentations; professional awards received and years of membership in the ACSD.

Brad Lau, president of ACSD, remarked on Arnold's talent and dedication to his job. "He has a genuine passion for the field of student development and desires students flourish as they recognize their value in Christ ... He is deeply invested in his work and takes seriously the important outcomes that we hope to see in the lives of our students and the development of student life programs."

Arnold had two scholarly articles published last year, including "Vocationalism in higher education: The unique role of the Christian college in preserving the liberal arts tradition," and "Ministry and Learning in Residence Life."

Prior to his work in residence life, Arnold served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance as an associate pastor for a church plant in Southwestern Iowa, with primary responsibilities for worship and youth ministry.

A graduate of Life Pacific College in theology and Regent University with a Master of Education in student affairs, Arnold was active in church planting and campus ministry, pioneering churches on the campuses of Radford University and Virginia Tech. Before coming to Shorter, Arnold worked in residence life at Tabor College.
