A heating unit is blamed for starting a small fire Sunday evening in the main lobby of Winthrop Senior Living, according to the Rome-Floyd Fire Department.

According to Fire Department Capt. Phil Litton:

The unit caught fire around 6:30 p.m. and forced an evacuation of residents and staff.

Litton said there was very little damage, most of it caused by smoke. Fans were used to clear out the smoke from inside the building and all occupants were allowed back inside.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
