The state board of the Technical College System of Georgia has given its approval for TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson to start the process to merge the administrations of the two schools.
The board's action came Wednesday during its monthly meeting in Savannah.
Officials say the merger should be accomplished by July 1, creating Georgia's second-largest technical college.
Last year, the two schools had a combined enrollment of 16,027 students in technical education programs. Only Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta enrolled more.
