Toys for Tots is hoping to have a big crowd for their live and silent auctions to benefit the organization on Dec. 3 at The Palladium.

Auction coordinator Ken Futch said admission to the event is $5 or a new unwrapped toy. The Palladium is at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Refreshments for the evening, which begins at 6 p.m., will include heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

He said items up for auction include “a little bit of everything,” from mini-fridges to a weekend married-couples retreat at Winshape.

“A lot of meals will be given away, along with a week at a beach condo and a long weekend condo trips in Panama City Beach, Fla.,” Futch said.

Some flat-screen televisions, a recliner, a deer stand, a case of vintage wine and items from master woodworker Frank Curti are among the other donations to be auctioned.

South 107 disc jockeys Kevin Daniels and Leroy Matthews will be the live auctioneers.

Futch said the closing of the U.S. Marine Corps armory on Shorter Avenue means the Marines will not be around to drum up support, but the local Toys for Tots program is otherwise unchanged.

“People will have to get used to seeing a retired Marine or a Marine Corps League member,” he said. “We just don’t have them here anymore.”

Donations can be dropped off at Futch’s office at Jason Free Realty, 1903 Turner McCall Blvd. Futch said boxes also are set up at “all the banks,” Golf for Less, High Tech Signs, Mount Berry Square mall and Kmart Super Center on Hicks Drive.
