A woman and her 12-year-old son were sent to the hospital Tuesday after the truck she was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Riverside Parkway.
According to Pfc. Mike Simmons and Pfc. Victor Marsh:
The tractor-trailer, driven by Paul Tyler of South Carolina, was headed east on Veterans Memorial, and the truck was attempting to go straight through the traffic light.
The driver of the tractor-trailer ran the red light.
Dedra Solei of White and her son Austin Solei were taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.
Tyler was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
Update:

According to PFC Mike Simmons:
The tractor-trailer was headed east on the loops and the truck was attempting to go straight through the traffic light. The driver of the tractor-trailer ran the red light.
Police were still investigating and had not released the name of the drivers.

A wreck involving a tractor-trailer truck and another vehicle at around 3:15 p.m. has traffic backed up near the intersection of Riverside Parkway and the loop.
The bypass is accessible from Riverside Parkway but both east and westbound traffic has been reduced to one lane each.
