Police and emergency crews closed a section of Kingston Highway near the Rome bypass on Tuesday afternoon because of a gas leak.

Crews working in the area reportedly struck a gas line, causing a leak at about 5:30 p.m.

Police blocked off Kingston Highway between its intersection with the Rome bypass and Old Freeman Ferry Road.

Atlanta Gas Light officials were on the scene just after 6 p.m., and the leak was capped and traffic able to resume by 8 p.m.

No one was injured, and there were no homes or structures close enough to the leak to call for an evacuation.
