Unity Christian School student Ezra Parker’s recent accomplishments in motocross include having won the Southern All Stars Series in two different classes, which were the 65cc stock bike in the 10-11 age group and the 65cc modified bike 7-11 unlimited (meaning this age group and all bikes with unlimited performance ability).

For those two accomplishments he was given the first place number plates at a banquet on Saturday, along with many other prizes and trophies.

At the same banquet he was given the second place title in the 9-11 age group on his 85cc bike. He maybe more proud of this accomplishment over any other, because he just started on this larger bike this spring.

The 85cc bike weighs almost three times as much as Ezra does and he can hardly touch the ground sitting on the bike. So to be able to take it all the way to a second place finish in a series of 15 events, competing against other riders from all over the Southeast, is a pretty big deal.

Most riders compete in only one class, which equals two races per event. Ezra races in three classes, which equals six races per event, held at race tracks that are approximately two miles long.

The tracks are filled with obstacles and high jumps, and he can complete one of these two-mile laps in well under two minutes, so he is riding pretty fast.

Often after completing a race in one class, Ezra must go straight back to the starting gate and jump on another bike for the next race without even a break.

Ezra has won several other large series, including the Indoor Arena Cross 2011 series in the Southeast, also in two different divisions, one being the “pre-teen” in which he competed against many older riders on larger bikes than his 65cc KTM.

Ezra also competes in as many charity events as he does regular competitive events. He has even donated his personal memorabilia for a charity auction to support St. Jude’s.

His other goal was that he had hoped his hair would grow out long enough before the beginning of school, so that he could donate it to a fellow rider that has been diagnosed with bone cancer and lost his hair because of his cancer treatments.

Ezra is on a journey to make it to the Nationals, which is as high as a rider younger than 16 can race before a rider becomes pro.
