No one was injured Tuesday afternoon when a Floyd County school bus struck a car on Cordle Drive off of Martha Berry Highway.

According to Trooper Donnie Cochran with the Georgia State Patrol:

The driver of the bus, Shiela Noles, was traveling south on Martha Berry Highway when she was distracted by children on the bus while she was attempting to turn onto Cordle Drive.

The bus went into the oncoming lane of Cordle Drive and struck the front driver side of the 1998 Honda Accord driven by Nikki Edgeworth of Summerville, who was waiting to turn out onto Martha Berry Highway.

Minimal damage was done to either vehicle and both were able to be driven after the incident.

Noles was cited with failure to maintain lane, and the students, which came from Armuchee area schools, were transferred to another bus.

Previously reported

No one was injured when a Floyd County school bus and a burgundy Honda Accord collided on Martha Berry Highway at the intersection with Cordle Drive near Schroeder's New Deli.

Details about the wreck aren't yet available, but all the children from Armuchee area schools were uninjured and transferred to another bus.

The driver of the Honda was uninjured as well.

The Georgia State Patrol is working the scene.

When will the FCBOE put bus monitors on these buses to avoid these incidences. Schools appoint lunchroom monitors and afterschool care monitors. The school bus driver is just that - the driver. I have known parents who have even volunteered to ride on the busses before school and after school to keep an eye on this precious cargo we call our children, but were told that since they were not employees of the system, the insurance would not "cover" them on the ride. Someone from FCBOE please explain this to me. Parents can go along on a field trip for a day on a school bus and "be covered" but they cannot volunteer to ride the bus daily to monitor the students on a bus so the driver can drive??

Some buses can't do that, I just graduated and trust me i know. These buses are to over crowded to have a monitor, there's barley enough room for the kids!! i am form the Armuchee area, and the bus i rode we sat 3-4 to a seat and still had absolutely no room for a monitor if needed, and my bus hit many people or they hit us as well. I understand we need the monitors, but there is simply not enough room for them and the kids. the drivers need to stop taking on 4-5 routs .
