Set for Sept. 28-30 at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport, the three-day event will include a number of amenities to entertain and excite.
“We’re going full speed here,” said John Cowman, president of JLC AirShow Management. “It’s been busy getting everything ready to go.”
Gates open at 2 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 29 and 30. Advance general admission tickets start at $13 for adults and $10 for kids ages 11-17. Children 10 and younger and seniors older than 65 are free.
The main attraction will be the display of flight and power in the sky as aircraft spanning one end of the spectrum to the other perform overhead.
Two of the featured performances will be from the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the Black Diamond Jet Team.
The Snowbirds will perform precision aerobatics in their nine CT-114 Tutor jets, while the Black Diamond Jet Team will feature two L-39 Albatrosses streaking through the sky in complex maneuvers.
Other highlights will be a U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet, an F4U Corsair and a P-51 Mustang Quicksilver.
Two parachute teams will also provide some spectacle to the event as the Fort Benning Silver Wings and the Liberty Jump Team bring their skills to Northwest Georgia.
The Silver Wings represent the specially trained members of the U.S. Army while the Liberty Jump Team honors those who served in World War II.
Included with general admission on Friday, Sept. 28, is the Commemorative Air Force’s “Red, White and Loud” tour concert featuring country music recording artist Aaron Tippin and the twilight air show that evening.
Tippin will perform alongside an authentic B-25 Devil Dog military bomber that will be on display courtesy of the CAF.
Joining the weekend line-up of events will be the Smoke-n-Thunder Barbeque Classic and the Smoke-n-Thunder Auto Show.
Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the Barbeque Classic will feature competition from both professional and amateur teams.
There will also be a kids zone with inflatables and other activities for some of the younger members of the crowd, as well as a mobile flight simulator.
Primary parking for the event will be at State Mutual Stadium and is $10 per vehicle. Shuttle service will take attendees to and from the airport.
There will also be limited handicap parking at the airport for $15. There will be a guest drop-off and pick-up location at the airport as well.
Upgrade packages are also available.
