Rome-Floyd County firefighters kept a check on a woods fire located between West Glover Street and South Blanche Avenue in South Rome on Monday evening, Sept. 24.

According to Battalion Chief Phil Langston, the fire was near the top of a ridge and had burned nearly half an acre, but it did not pose a threat to residences around the bottom of the hill.

“It’s just gotten dry up there,” Langston said. “Fortunately the wind isn’t blowing so it’s just a slow burn.”

Langston said they did not know how the fire started.

The Georgia Forestry Commission was called to bring in their equipment and clear around the fire.
