Berry College staff member Andrea Jones and student workers Sarah Baker Walker and Isaac Jessup earned top honors during Berry’s annual Student Work Awards Program. Jones claimed the John R. Bertrand Superior Work-Supervisor Award, while Walker and Jessup were honored with the Chief Moore Award for students.

The Bertrand Award goes to the year’s most outstanding work supervisor and is named for Dr. John Raney Bertrand, Berry president from 1956-1979.

Jones is the horticultural technician and manager of the greenhouse for the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In this role, she grows plants for use on Berry’s grounds, at special events and in classrooms, as well as for public sale.

The Chief Moore Awards go to the year’s most outstanding male and female student workers. Friends and family of Winifred “Chief” Moore, a Berry graduate and former head groundskeeper, fund the awards.

Walker was honored for her work as the reproduction manager for the Berry College Dairy. In that position, she was responsible for all decisions regarding reproduction in the dairy’s inventory of more than 100 cattle. The daughter of Frederick and Kay Walker of Clarksville, Va., Walker graduated this year with a major in animal science.

Jessup is a senior communication major who distinguished himself as webmaster for Viking Fusion — the communication department’s multimedia Web site — and as student supervisor for the multimedia center. In the latter role, he was responsible for the operation of multimedia technology in 50 conference rooms and classrooms.

Jessup is the son of Lawrence and Denise Jessup of Saint Marys.
