CUMMING — Carrie Metz of Carnesville fired a 4-under-par 68 to take a four-stroke lead over Jessica Welch of Lavonia after the opening round of the 30th annual Georgia Girls’ Championship, taking place at Polo Golf and Country Club, June 15-17. Rinko Mitsunaga of Roswell sits in third place with a 1-over-par 73.

Caitlin Watts, of LaGrange, is currently in fourth place with a 74. Lindsay Adams, of Lawrenceville, and Dayana Marquez, of Atlanta, are tied for fifth with scores of 77. Haley Austin of McDonough shot 78 to sit in seventh place. Three players are tied for eighth at 79, including Judy Nam of Buford, Lacey Fears of Bonaire and Rachel Dai of Suwanee.
