A Henry County man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol early Tuesday morning after a Monday night wreck that flipped his pickup truck on U.S. 27.

The two-vehicle wreck, which happened around 11 p.m. Monday, ejected one man and partially pinned the other under the truck.

The accident had U.S. 27 South blocked in the Booze Mountain Road area for more than an hour.

Lanny Edward Adams, 42, of 3036 Peeksville Road in Locust Grove, was arrested early Tuesday on DUI charges. He was later released from the Floyd County Jail on $1,570 bail.

According to Floyd County Police officer Ryan Pratt:

A Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 27 South around 11 p.m. when it went over the median into the northbound lane and then veered back to into the southbound lane of U.S. 27.

It then reportedly clipped another southbound vehicle, a red Dodge Dakota pickup, that resulted in the Ford truck flipping several times before coming to rest in a culvert along the highway about a quarter mile south of Booze Mountain Road.

The two men in the Ford were identified as Adams and Johnny Stowe, also of Locust Grove. According to Cpl. Greg Beck with the Floyd County Police Department, Stowe — the passenger — was ejected through the front windshield, and Adams — the driver — was partially ejected from the window.

Rescue personnel had to extricate Adams, who was partially pinned under the truck.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, Beck said.

Both men were taken by ambulance to Floyd Medical Center. Adams had a visible head injury, and Stowe appeared to have an injured arm. No other injuries were reported.

Adams was arrested for DUI and was taken to the Floyd County Jail after treatment at the hospital.

All southbound traffic on U.S. 27 was blocked for over an hour while emergency workers were at the scene, but the highway was reopened by 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
