Ray and Pollyanna Horsley, both 92, of Rome recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Floyd Medical Center where Mrs. Horsley was recovering from a broken hip.

Several other celebrations for their anniversary continued in May and June with family members visiting.

The two met on a blind date in Oakland, Calif., and were married April 5, 1942 in Reno, Nev., at the home of Horsley’s brother. Mrs. Horsley is the former Pollyanna Edwards, from Beaver City, Neb. She worked for J.C. Penny for 14 years in Fresno, Calif., and is affiliated with Eastern Star and the Emblem Club.

Mr. Horsley served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in China, Burma and India.  After the war, he was in the grocery business for more than 10 years and had his own insurance agency for more than 26 years.  He is past president of C.L.U. Managers Life Underwriters Insurance Association and the Lions Club in California. He is past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and a member of the

Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shrine, all of California.

The Horsleys have two children, Patricia McAlpin of Rome and Mike Horsley of Fresno, Calif.  

They have four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren with number 11 on the way. After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Horsley moved to Georgia.  Especially happy times in their marriage include being around their grandchildren and traveling all over the United States in their motor home visiting family and friends.
