Kim and Walter (Eddie) Giles of Rome recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 21 with a reception at the Village of Maplewood Club House with their family and close friends.

The two were married on July 21, 1962 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Miami, Fla. with Father Edward Pick presiding. The couple moved to Rome in 1974.

Mr. Giles retired from the Georgia Power Company in 2006 after 31 years of service. Mrs. Giles retired from SunTrust Bank in 2003 after 26 years of service.

The couple have three children, Walter Giles Jr., John Dean Giles and Kathleen Pickering. They have two grandchildren.

The Giles are members of St. Clements Catholic Church in Calhoun. Mrs. Giles teaches deep water aerobics at the YMCA and Mr. Giles volunteers at the YMCA.

They enjoy visiting their lake place on Lake Weiss in Alabama, traveling and getting together with family and friends.

Especially happy times during their marriage were the births of their children and grandchildren and traveling all over the United States and cruising to the Caribbean and Alaska.

They say the secret to a successful marriage is loving and trusting each other through good times and bad times, always putting family first and always trusting in God and being thankful for all he has given them.
