Rome Braves: Simmons rehabbing in tonight's playoff game

Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons will serve a Major League rehabilitation assignment tonight at 7 p.m. at State Mutual Stadium for game 1 for the South Atlantic League Southern Division three-game series.

He has been on the 15-day disabled list since the All-Star break with a broken right pinkie.

Simmons, in his first Major League season, was a key component in the Atlanta offense hitting .296 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 33 games before the injury. He also played stellar defense for Atlanta with a .982 fielding percentage.

He was the National League Rookie of the Month for June.

Rome begins round one of the South Atlantic League playoffs tonihght at 7 p.m. against the Asheville Tourists. It is Rome’s first postseason appearance since 2006. Fans are encouraged to wear white to the game for a “whiteout” plus rally towels will be given out.
