Rome man attempted to elude police

A Rome man led police on a short chase that ended in the Midtown Crossing shopping center Wednesday, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the report:

Jeffray Allen Hughes, 46, of 75 Green and Gold Blvd., refused to pull over during a traffic stop and turned into Midtown Crossing shopping center, 224 Shorter Ave., where he continued to drive throughout the parking lot spinning his tires.

Hughes was charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, misdemeanor failure to yield the right of way, misdemeanor failure to stop at a stop sign, misdemeanor driving without insurance and misdemeanor reckless driving.

He was discovered to have a warrant for failure to pay child support.
