“It was reminiscent of Bob Moore in the eighties taking a group of us kids to that same track and breaking the hearts of those other kids from the big city that thought they had something on us,” said Bobby Hunt, father of Davis Hunt.
Participants must race a series of qualifying races and the state championship to earn a state ranking based on cumulative points during the year.
Those bringing home a state ranking included: Davis Hunt, No. 2 12-year-old Intermediate; Aiden Loorham, No. 4 11-year-old Intermediate; Clancy Loorham No. 8 14-year-old Intermediate; Caleb Heard, No. 4 12-year-old Novice; Fain Barton No. 3 9-year-old Novice and Luke Barton, No. 2 35 and older Cruiser Class. Other racers from Rome competing in the State Championship race but ineligible for a state ranking were Cooper Brock, Nate Smith, fourth 9-year-old Novice and Trey Smith, second 41-over Intermediate.
