Bomb squad sent to Tamasee Lane Apartments

Update: The Northwest Georgia Bomb Squad was called to the Tamassee Lane apartments shortly after 11:30 Friday night after a man showed a resident a device that appeared to be a bomb, police said.

The man, identified as "an acquaintance" of the resident by Sgt. Chris DeHart of the Rome Police Department, then left. Police are still looking for the suspect.

The device was described as a hoax device.

At least 24 units were evacuated for about an hour.

At least 24 units were evacuated at the Tamassee Lane Apartments in West Rome just after midnight Saturday.

Police officials said a bomb threat had been received, but have not released any other details at this time. The bomb squad is on the scene.

The apartments are near Sam's Club.
