BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A school board member is expressing concerns that a newly discovered cemetery could extend beneath the campus of the adjacent Glynn Academy in Brunswick.

School board member Hank Yeargan tells The Brunswick News that he wants to know how much, if any, of the cemetery is covered by the Glynn Academy campus. Yeargan said he wants to make sure that renovations planned at Glynn Academy do not disturb any grave sites.

The graves were found last week in the city's history district where a middle school previously stood. Archaeologist Fred Cook said he dated the graves to the late 1700s. He said an early Brunswick settler, Benjamin Hart, is reportedly buried in the cemetery.
