Road check leads to several arrests

A late Saturday night road check led to several arrests, including two men charged with felonies, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Six people were cited for misdemeanor DUI at the intersection of East Second Avenue and Third Street and two other people were cited for DUI and felony drug charges.

Police arrested Anthony Lamar Greene Jr., 26, of 18 Wimpee St., Rome, after he tried to get away from the road check.

According to the reports:

Greene slammed on his brakes as he approached the road check, then started backing away, destroying a stop sign and cracking an embankment.

He then ran away before he was caught by police.

Greene is charged with misdemeanor DUI, impeding the flow of traffic, open container, hit and run, driving without a valid license, reckless driving, obstruction of law enforcement officers and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, all misdemeanors. He is also charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer.

In a separate incident, David Lee Chandler, 35, of 793 Highland Ave., Summerville, was found in possession of hydrocodone and oxycodone tablets. He is charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule III controlled substance and DUI.
