Paul's Oyster Bar, a longtime fixture in Coosa, will no longer have regular hours on Oct. 1.

State Sen.-elect Chuck Hufstetler and his wife, Joan Hufstetler, earlier said they were planning to sell the restaurant located at 2901 Shorter Ave. they’ve owned for 18 years.

Hufstetler said they will still do special parties on-site.

The restaurant has been a fixture in Coosa for a total of 58 years.

Hufstetler won the Republican nomination for the 52nd District state Senate seat in the July 31 primary, and there is no Democrat on the ballot for the Nov. 6 general election.

The former Floyd County commissioner also considered selling the restaurant in 2006, when he entered an anesthetist study program at Emory University and declined to seek office again.

His son, Caleb, took over restaurant operations at that point, Hufstetler said, but “he’s finishing up grad school, and he’s got to move on.”

Paul’s Oyster Bar is known for its fresh seafood. It added a microbrewery in 2011.
