Redmond Regional Medical Center and the Heart of the Community Foundation Inc. sponsor the Heart of the Community Awards program. It honors local citizens for a lifetime of volunteer service to the community.
Recipients of the award are honored at a black tie gala called An Affair of the Heart that is annually conducted in February, which is Heart Month. The 27th event is planned for Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at The Forum.
Proceeds from the gala are earmarked for heart education and safety programs across the Rome and Floyd County community.
Previously funded projects have included the Heart House for families of critically ill patients on the Redmond campus, AED units in public facilities in Rome, a Par fitness course at Ridge Ferry Park, a serenity garden at Redmond and exercise equipment at the Thornton Recreation Center in Armuchee.
Brock is a graduate of West Rome High School and the University of Alabama and is the owner of Appraisal Associates of Rome. He said that he has served on the Heart of the Community Board for several years.
“The thing I like about the Heart of the Community is the unsung heroes that are recognized,” Broad said. “I’ve been on the selection committee before, where you sit down with the applications from people, and it’s just incredible the amount of work that people do in this community, people that you think you know and are aware of what they are involved in. It’s just amazing how much people are giving back to the community.”
Brock has served many organizations in Rome, including the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, Rome-Floyd County Development Authority, Rome Downtown Development Authority, Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, YMCA, and the Open Door Home.
