Rome-Floyd County firefighters responded to a fire at an unoccupied residence near the Alabama state line Monday morning, according to Battalion Chief Phil Taylor.

A cabin-like structure in the 8000 block of Black’s Bluff Road was heavily involved by the time the first fire engines arrived on scene at about 10:30 a.m. Firefighters immediately went into defensive mode to minimize the possibility of the fire spreading to the surrounding area.

The owner of the residence, whose name was unavailable, lives in Cherokee County, Ala., and was not home at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
