Rome Teacher, Support Employee of the Year representatives named

Rome City School officials announced nine representatives for Teacher of the Year for 2014, as well as 11 representatives for the Support Employee of the Year.

All of the representatives will be honored at a banquet on Oct. 2 at Rome Middle School at 7 p.m. The program will honor and celebrate all

nominees and give special recognition to the employees selected as the 2014 Teacher of the Year and the Support Employee of the Year.

The employees selected as the school district’s Teacher of the Year, runner-up, and Support Employee of the Year will be named in a surprise announcement the week of Sept. 24 prior to the recognition banquet.

The employees are selected for recognition because the quality of their work is exemplary and because their job performance significantly contributes to the success of the students.

The following have been chosen as the 2014 Teacher of the Year representative from their school:

  • Amy Massey, third grade teacher at East Central Elementary
  • Penny Atkinson, health and physical education teacher at Elm Street Elementary
  • Carol Green, first grade teacher at Main Elementary
  • Natalie Hall, third grade teacher at North Heights Elementary
  • Karen Nichols, family and consumer science teacher at Rome Middle School
  • Holly Amerman, science teacher at Rome High School
  • Elizabeth McLemore, special education teacher at Southeast Elementary
  • Quincy Nation, kindergarten teacher at West Central Elementary
  • Lisa S. Strack, fifth grade teacher at West End Elementary

    Named as the 2014 Support Employees of the Year representatives are:

  • Sandy Kelley, secretary at Central Office
  • Michael Bray, custodian at East Central Elementary
  • Ruth Miller, parent involvement coordinator at Elm Street Elementary
  • Janice Singleton, paraprofessional at Main Elementary
  • Cristal Vaughn, school nutrition program at North Heights Elementary
  • Cheryl Suddeth, secretary at Rome High
  • Rebecca Moye, secretary at Rome Middle
  • Louise Adams, secretary at Southeast Elementary
  • Amy Holt, paraprofessional at West Central Elementary
  • Shelley Elliott, school nutrition program, at West End Elementary
  • Cynthia Henderson, bus driver in maintenance and transportation
