Kareem Lane of Pell City, Ala., was charged with murder in 2010 after authorities said they used DNA testing to tie the former U.S. Marine to the 1992 killing of Muscogee County School Superintendent Jim Burns.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports the judge ordered deliberations to resume Wednesday morning after jurors said Tuesday they had deadlocked in their second day of weighing evidence.
Lane's defense attorney attacked the forensic evidence. Prosecution's experts testified DNA found on the murder weapon did not definitively incriminate Lane because tests showed a second person had also handled the same knife.
