Nearly 90 employers will be accepting applications at the Northwest Georgia/Shorter University Career Expo in Rome today.

The free event, set for 9 a.m. to noon at The Forum, is open to anyone. Attendees should be prepared to speak with employers, complete applications and turn in resumes.

Preregistration for the Career Expo at www.nwgashorterucareerexpo.com is not required but is encouraged to save time at the door.

Among the employers scheduled to attend are Toyo Tire, Shaw Industries, Rome Cleaners, North Georgia Staffing, Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehab, Floyd County Prison, Aramark, Apex Carriers Inc., Eagle Rock Distributing Co., the Dako Group, Cotton States Insurance, Georgia Power Co., Lowe’s, Home Instead Senior Care, Goodwill, Floyd County Schools, Steak & Shake and Kelly Services.

Debbie Baggett of the Georgia Department of Labor said the event last year drew approximately 1,700 job-seekers, and more than 100 of them found employment.

This will be the fourth year Shorter has sponsored the expo. Certified resume writers will be on hand to give advice about resumes, and the DOL will provide computers for job searchers to complete online applications.

Labor Commissioner Mark Butler will host his first live Twitter Chat during the expo, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tweet questions to @GeorgiaDOL or tune in to the conversation at #EMPLOYGA.
