Chattooga County officials blaming each other over jail bill

The county has spent almost $38,000 on housing inmates out to neighboring county jails and Chattooga County officials are blaming each other.

The sheriff points a finger at the commissioner and vice versa. Despite who’s at fault, the county taxpayers will be ultimately responsible for paying the housing bill from Floyd and Gordon Counties.

Normally the county houses out about 14 inmates in the Floyd or Gordon jails, according to Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett. These are female inmates or sex offenders that have special housing needs.
